With more than six decades of experience under his belt, Christopher Plummer is reaping the benefits from one of the most celebrated performances of his career this awards season, nabbing a Golden Globe, SAG Award and now, an Indie Spirit Award for his role in Beginners.

Plummer is heralded as the clear favorite to take home an Oscar in the best supporting actor category on Sunday, but the actor seemed unfazed by all the madness while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter on Saturday in the THR backstage video lounge.

"I don't know what I'm going to do with every day of the year now," Plummer said with a laugh. "I'm going to expect an award every morning."

"I don't know quite why I'm getting it," he confessed of his newest trophy. "I've been established for so bloody long. I've been in the business 60 years, I really don't need help. This helps young people with enormous courage and talent. It's such a great award, I think its heart is in the right place."

Plummer beat out fellow nominees Albert Brooks (Drive), John Hawkes (Martha Marcy May Marlene), John C. Reilly (Cedar Rapids) and Corey Stoll (Midnight in Paris) for the honor. He is in good company with the rest of the 2012 winners, joined by The Descendants' Shailene Woodley, My Week With Marilyn's Michelle Williams and The Artist's Jean Dujardin in the acting categories.

Plummer spoke openly about his affection for the "provocative," "thoughtful" and "quirky" pictures that so often come from the independent film community, but also confessed his desire to someday collaborate with a few of the industry's heaviest hitters.

"I'd love to work for Scorcese, I nearly did once," he said. "And Spielberg… Francis Ford Coppola… I have worked with some of the greatest talent the world has had to offer. I've been so lucky to have known such wonderful and talented people."

As another whirlwind awards season draws to a close, Plummer said he is most looking forward to returning to work.

"Well I'm gonna go back to earning a living, which is terribly important for me," he joked. "The awards have taken up so much time, they do -- if only they were a little bit squeezed together -- and now I can earn a living. Thank God!"

The actor is currently preparing for the HBO film Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight, directed by Stephen Frears and written by Shawn Slovo. "I'm looking forward to [it]," Plummer said. "It's very well written."
