Megan Ellison Calls Kathryn Bigelow Oscar Snub 'F---ed Up,' Jessica Chastain Praises Her Direction
The co-producer on "Zero Dark Thirty" slammed the Academy's decision not to nominate Bigelow for best director, while the film's star was more cautious.
Normally a source of inspirational quotes from great leaders, Megan Ellison's Twitter account on Thursday provided memorable words of a different sort.
The founder of Annapurna Pictures and daughter of Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison made very public her outrage over the Academy of Arts and Sciences' decision not to nominate Zero Dark Thirty helmer Kathryn Bigelow for a best director Oscar. In a tweet hours after the nominations were unveiled, Ellison wrote: "Kathryn Bigelow was robbed. So f---ed up. #recount."
Bigelow, an Oscar winner for 2009's The Hurt Locker, is up for a Golden Globe in the best director in a dramatic film category and has been awarded several critics' prizes for her job on the controversial film about the hunt for Osama bin Laden.
The film's star, Jessica Chastain, received an Oscar nomination for best actress and praised her director by likening her to the quarterback of a football team. Zero Dark Thirty is nominated for best picture, and Chastain told THR that just as a team can't make the Super Bowl without the leadership of its quarterback, the film would not have been up for the honor as the year's best without Bigelow's steady hand.
Zero Dark Thirty also is up for Oscars for screenwriting, editing and sound editing.
