Three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep -- who could score a record-extending 18th Oscar nomination, in the best actress category, for her work in August: Osage County, which The Weinstein Co. will release on Christmas Day -- will receive the Icon Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, it was announced Wednesday.

The award will be presented on Jan. 4 at the Palm Springs Convention Center as part of the festival's 25th edition, which runs from Jan. 3-13.

FEINBERG FORECAST: The Most Competitive Oscar Race in Years

"We’re overjoyed to recognize Meryl Streep for yet another Oscar-worthy performance in August: Osage County," festival chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement. "Meryl Streep’s portrayal of Violet Weston, the matriarch of a dysfunctional family reunited by a tragic incident, will be remembered in her long list of iconic character roles."

The only prior recipient of the Icon Award was Michael Douglas in 2011.

The fest previously announced that it will honor 12 Years a Slave's helmer Steve McQueen with its Director of the Year Award and supporting actress Lupita Nyong'o with its Breakthrough Performance Award; Captain Phillips' lead actor/Saving Mr. Banks' supporting actor Tom Hanks with its Chairman's Award; Dallas Buyers Club's Matthew McConaughey with its Desert Palm Award, Actor; Gravity's Sandra Bullock with its Desert Palm Award, Actress; August: Osage County's supporting actress Julia Roberts with its Spotlight Award; Saving Mr. Banks' composer Thomas Newman with its Frederick Loewe Award for Film Composing; and Nebraska's Bruce Dern with its Career Achievement Award.
