TCM Classic Film Fest: Francis Ford Coppola Set for Chinese Theatre Honor
Francis Ford Coppola, the legendary filmmaker best known for The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now, will finally receive a handprint-footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre on April 29, courtesy of the TCM Classic Film Festival. The fest's seventh edition runs from April 28 through May 1.
"Without a doubt, Francis Ford Coppola is one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation," TCM host Robert Osborne said in a statement. "His Academy Award-winning directing, producing and writing contributions have given audiences some of the most memorable films of the last half-century, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate his distinguished career, and our appreciation of what he's added to our lives, than with this honor."
This is the sixth straight year in which TCM is picking up the tab for this sort of a ceremony during its fest. It previously coordinated honors for Peter O'Toole in 2011, Kim Novak in 2012, Jane Fonda in 2013, Jerry Lewis in 2014 and Christopher Plummer in 2015.
The fest previously announced that its opening night film will be All the President's Men and that other attendees will include Carl Reiner, Elliott Gould, Eva Marie Saint, John Singleton, Stacy Keach and Anna Karina.
