Inside the Screen Actors Guild Awards Post-Show Gala
Final touches are being made for this weekend's largest — and most glamorous — Hollywood party.
Time Inc.’s People and the Entertainment Industry Foundation are teaming for a 21st time to co-host the official Screen Actors Guild Awards post-show gala, an event that immediately follows the 23rd annual SAG Awards at L.A.'s Shrine Auditorium. The party partnership honors the charitable efforts of actors in their communities and makes an annual donation to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
Just who will be there? The gala (as seen in a rendering above) typically hosts nominees, presenters and, yes, honorees, too, from both film and TV categories. Presenters at Sunday's awards — simulcast live on TNT and TBS at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT — include Casey Affleck, Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris, Lucas Hedges, Taraji P. Henson, Brie Larson, Janelle Monae, Viggo Mortensen, Octavia Spencer, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton, with the latter two set to present the Life Achievement Award to Lily Tomlin.
As for the bash, Tony Schubert and his Event Eleven colleagues are handling design and producing duties for the ninth consecutive year. This year, they've set their sights on Paris, re-creating a street scene in the City of Lights via towering facades of cafes and bistros, a department store, a large park-like fountain, tree-lined streets and lush furnishings.
A Parisian-inspired menu will come courtesy of Wolfgang Puck, paired with wines by Sterling Vineyards along with spirits including Clase Azul Tequila, Champagne Tattinger and Chopin Vodka. Hors d'oeuvres include spicy tuna tartare in a sesame miso cone, mini prime cheeseburgers, croque monsieurs, porcini mushroom toast and Wolfgang Puck pizza. Meanwhile, buffet stations will serve farro and black rice, roasted local bass with cauliflower puree, slow braised beef short rib and crab claws and shrimp, among other offerings.
Expect some dancing, too, with celebrity DJ Michelle Pesce handling the turntables. As the exclusive beauty sponsor (excluding fragrance) of the SAG Awards ceremony and post-awards gala, L’Oreal Paris will treat guests to makeup touch-ups and product samples. On board this year is Dunkin’ Donuts as the exclusive coffee provider, a deal that will see the popular chain provide craft beverages, fresh brewed coffee and mini-donuts, aka Munchkins.
And finally, the gift bag business may have dwindled in Hollywood in recent years, but not here. Invited guests at SAG's People and EIF party will leave with a gift bag containing product from Chuao Bar, Dunkin’ Donuts, Entertainment Weekly, Govino, HISY, L’Oreal, Lulu Dharma, People, PiperWai LLC, PLATEFIT, Postmates, Rx Protein Bars, SAG-AFTRA, Texture, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Vintage Grocers and a copy of I’m Your Biggest Fan, written by People executive editor Kate Coyne and published by Hachette Book Group.
