Big Tits Zombie -- Film Review

Roger Corman meets Lloyd Kaufman in Russ Meyer heaven.

CHICAGO -- It's strippers vs. zombies in this titanic spoof of movie genres. Playing to lively, late-night audiences last week at the Chicago International Film Festival, "Big Tits Zombie" romps out from a boondocks Japanese strip joint as big-chested bimbos do battle with the undead.

Partially in 3D, Zombie should strut to appreciative audiences on the festival circuit as well as seduce the frat-boy demographic. Although it's not likely to generate brainy natterings from the academic crowd, serious cineastes will marvel at its farcical blend of Sergio Leone, Akira Kurosawa and Sam Raimi. Latter Day Disciples of Roger Corman will look on its topless costumery as a savvy cost-conscious protocol.

In this smart idiocy, Sola Aloi stars as an Akido-trained stripper who pines to hit the big-time entertainment biz. Because she dwells in a time and place where a nubile lass' path to stardom was not accelerated by appearing in a sex video, she must pay her artistic dues on the exotic-dance circuit. She sashays amid of a troupe of dupes, who shake their stuff and drop their tops for a deadbeat club owner.

As with every entertainment organization, there's a self-proclaimed intellectual in the herd whose knowledge is just enough to bring on trouble. In this case, the brainiest bimbette (Mari Sakurai) unwittingly conjures the undead while reading aloud from an ancient book. Although strippers generally are impervious to mashers and maulers, the slobbering and drooling undead are a daunting challenge.

Although the narrative is as minimalist as the wardrobes, screenwriter-director Takao Nakano has heaved in some brainy wit amid a cornucopia of gore and flesh. It's a winning mix of mindless with topless, cleverly decked out with Tichika Nakano's deliriously sexy costumes.

Among the wacky strippers, Aoi and Sakurai stand out in their nimble and sexy performances, with their considerable frontal amplitudes in perfect sync with the 3D scoping.
