Each year, Comedy Central tries a different approach for its annual salute to the dumbest people and events of the year. This year's show features successive appearances by Dave Attell, D.L. Hughley and host Lewis Black, followed by an audience Q&A with the comedians. The format works well enough, but a lot of the jokes are more shrill than funny.

Attell covers topics from convicted dogfighter Michael Vick to embarrassed "High School Musical" co-star Vanessa Hudgens, whose nude photos found their way to the Internet. "For some of you it was a nightmare; for others, it was a screen saver." Just a little later, though, Attell surprisingly runs out of topical material and reverts to generic topics.

Hughley has the sharpest jokes and also the most bleeps. During the press conference finale, one of his responses is bleeped so often, you can't even guess the obscenities from the context of the sentence.

Black is his reliably cranky and outraged self, a persona that would win laughs even if he read from the phone book.

The one-hour special, a Tenth Planet production executive produced and directed by Joel Gallen, will be streamed online at comedycentral.com for a week, starting at 2 a.m. Sunday night.
