Caroline Thompson to Receive Distinguished Screenwriter Award at Austin Film Fest

Edward Scissorhands screenwriter Caroline Thompson will receive the Distinguished Screenwriter Award at the 2011 Austin Film Festival in October.
Thompson, who has written or co-written the scripts for The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, City of Ember, The Addams Family, The Secret Garden and Black Beauty, will also participate in panels during the concurrent writing conference.
Thompson will receive the honor at the annual awards luncheon Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Austin Club, along with Bones creator Hart Hanson, who is set to receive the Outstanding Television Writer Award.
Thompson is currently working on adaptations of Melissa Marr’s novel Wicked Lovely for Universal and Mikhail Bulgakov’s The Master and Margarita.
Previous recipients of the Distinguished Screenwriter Award include David Peoples, Steven Zaillian, Lawrence Kasdan, Frank Pierson, James L. Brooks and Horton Foote.
