While the release of the highly anticipated American version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is still months away, new photos are starting to give fans a look at the dark thriller.
Based on the hit novel by Stieg Larsson, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo stars Daniel Craig (Cowboys & Aliens) as journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who is enlisted by a wealthy family to solve the mystery of a young girl’s disappearance. Rooney Mara (The Social Network) stars as Lisbeth Salander, a mysterious hacker who assists Blomkvist in his increasingly dangerous hunt to find the truth.

In the photos, fans get a close-up look at Mara as the dark heroine, with plenty of piercings and dark hair. Mara got several piercings for the role.
Directed by David Fincher (The Social Network), The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has a December 21 release date.
Last week, fans got a first look at many of the secondary characters when the website for the film launched with stylized photos of all of the characters, along with bios. Images for Stellan Skarsgård's character, Martin Vanger, the brother of the missing woman, and Robin Wright, who plays Blomkvist's boss and sometimes-lover, are included in the collection.
