GoDigital Distributor Inks Deal With Adopt Films

Santa Monica-based distribution company GoDigital has inked a digital distribution pact with New York-based Adopt Films, an independent distributor.

The first film to be digitally distributed as part of the deal will be The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, which Adopt acquired in September. The documentary from French-American director Marie Losier about a performance artist and his wife, who undergo sexual transformations as part of an art project, will open theatrically March 8.

Adopt was founded last year by October Films co-founder Jeff Lipsky and Tim Grady, a former exhibitor. The company focuses on acquiring English-language and foreign-language features and documentaries; it plans to release as many as eight films annually.

GoDigital’s Andy Bohn and Lipsky negotiated the distribution deal.

It has been a busy month for GoDigital: On Jan. 10, the company announced its purchase of video-on-demand competitor Might Entertainment. As part of the deal, GoDigital is absorbing Might's output arrangements, in addition to the firm's cable, satellite, Internet protocol television and broadband video-on-demand distribution deal with Lionsgate.

The expanded GoDigital now boasts more than 1,000 catalogue films.
