Hugh Jackman Returning to Broadway in Aaron Sorkin's 'Houdini'
The actor most recently ended the successful stage run of "Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway."
On the heels of his most recent record-breaking stage run, Hugh Jackman has signed on to star in the original Broadway musical Houdini, penned by screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. It is scheduled for the 2013-14 season.
Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) is writing the music and lyrics, and Jack O'Brien (The Coast of Utopia) is set to direct. Scott Sanders (The Color Purple) and David Rockwell (Hairspray), who will also design the sets, are producing.

Jackman has headlined several successful Broadway productions, including The Boy From Oz and Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway. He portrayed an extremely competitive magician in Christopher Nolan's film The Prestige in 2006.
“I have been deeply fascinated by the life of Harry Houdini since I was young, and in many ways I’ve been preparing for this role my whole life,” said Jackman. “I am thrilled to be collaborating with this collection of artists who are all at the top of their game.”
The WME-repped Jackman most recently starred in the feature Real Steel, and he will soon take on the role of Jean Valjean in a big-screen adaptation of the musical Les Miserables for Universal Pictures and director Tom Hooper.

"Rather than being a biography, Houdini -- told in a contemporary tone -- tells the story of an epic battle that took place between the world's greatest illusionist and a trio of women, known as 'Spiritualists', who convinced millions of people, including the editors of Scientific American and The New York Times, that they could communicate with the dead,” said Sorkin.
The WME-repped Sorkin most recently co-wrote Moneyball and wrote the screenplay for The Social Network, which earned him an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay. Houdini represents the first attempt at a libretto for Sorkin, who previously wrote the play A Few Good Men.
