Julie Delpy Wants Woody Allen to Star in New Project 'Virgo Rising'
The French actress-writer-director tells THR that she's cooking up a script for the legendary filmmaker; she would co-star.
By trying on dark-framed glasses and exuding a flood of nervous energy amid a crazy family in a film set in New York, Julie Delpy is earning comparisons to the patriarch of Upper East Side cinema anxiety, Woody Allen. That she also wrote and directed 2 Days in New York only strengthens her claim to his shadow.
But instead of just professing her desire to be cast in one of the 76-year old filmmaker's projects, Delpy is making a much bolder move: trying to cast him in one of her films.
"I wrote a movie, but maybe it’s bad," she told The Hollywood Reporter in New York on Wednesday. "So I have to see. Maybe it’s not such a good film. It’s called Virgo Rising. It’s very funny. But I don’t know if I’ll do it. I don’t know if I’ll ever dare to offer him the part."

Delpy said that she would co-star with Allen in the film, and like her new project with Chris Rock, it would be set in New York City. If it ever gets made. Like a younger, accented Allen, she continued to project nervous modesty, even though she's been working on the script for years.
"I don’t know if it’s a very good screenplay," she insisted. "I need to really work on it. Right now it’s a little messy."
In the mean time, Allen will work on his next project, which is set in both New York and San Francisco and will feature Alec Baldwin, Louis C.K. and Cate Blanchett, among others.
