Millennium Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the indie drama Little Birds. The company plans a fall release.

Juno Temple, Kay Panabaker, Kate Bosworth and Leslie Mann star in the story of two teenage girls from the Salton Sea who fall in with a trio of street kids and end up in an L.A. world of petty crime. Written and directed by Elgin James, Little Birds had its world premiere in the dramatic competition at the Sundance Film Festival this year.

Jamie Patricof (Blue Valentine) and Alan Polsky and Gabe Polsky (Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans) produced the film. Max Burger, Monique Burger, Kevin Iwashina and Stefan Nowicki are executive producers.

“Elgin has made a powerful and surprising film that deeply resonated with us,” said Millennium Entertainment CEO Bill Lee.

Millennium exec Vincent Scordino negotiated the deal with Preferred Content’s Iwashina on behalf of the filmmakers. WestEnd Films is handling international sales at the Marche de Cannes.

Millennium recently released the drama Trust.
