Oscar Isaac Offers Musical, Plot Details on Coen Brothers' 'Inside Llewyn Davis'
He'll grab the lead role -- and lead guitar -- in the upcoming 1960s-set film.
Oscar Isaac was in Midtown Manhattan on Monday to attend the premiere of The Bourne Legacy; it was some 50 blocks south of the Ziegfeld Theater, where he earlier this year shot Inside Llewyn Davis, a period film set in the heart of the early 1960s folk music revolution in Greenwich Village.
The film, in which he plays a musician named -- you guessed it -- Llewyn Davis that is loosely based on integral folk singer Dave Van Ronk, was written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, and working with the Oscar-winners was a dream come true for Isaac.
"It was bliss. It was complete bliss," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I play a guy that's down on his luck, but it was very hard to feel that way because I was just always had a smile from ear to ear. I was elated just to be there."
The film, which tracks a week in Davis' life in 1960 (or 1961), offered Isaac a chance to show off not only his acting chops but his well-honed guitar skills.
"I've been playing for 20 years, so it was kind of the perfect storm of things that came together for me to be a part of it," he said. "We did all the music live, no playback; it's like a concert movie. There's like six or seven songs in it."
Justin Timberlake also features in the movie, as do Carey Mulligan, Garrett Hedlund and Coen brothers veteran John Goodman.
