'Spring Breakers' Trailer: Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, Teeny Boppers Gone Bad (Video)
The former Disney stars team up with James Franco and Harmony Korine for a vodka-soaked, bullet-riddled, hard-charging romp through nihilistic pleasure-seeking.
How do you shed the dreaded "child star" label, that gold halo-turned-scarlet letter that can doom a career as quickly as it can bring riches originally reserved for young royalty?
How about dousing it in liquor and setting it on fire?
Such is the approach being taken by former teen mag sweethearts Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, who starred in major Disney Channel franchises and dated boys whose faces were plastered across the insides of middle school lockers nationwide. The pair are one half of the four-part ensemble of bikini-clad twentysomething actresses who seek out extracurricular -- and extra-legal -- thrills and stimuli in Spring Breakers, an upcoming film from director Harmony Korine.
The movie, being put out by Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures and A24, also includes Rachel Korine and Ashley Benson in the group of delinquent coeds who are bailed out of jail after a party-gone-wrong by a thuggish, pleasure-junkie whirlwind of teeth grills and hair braids, played by James Franco. It's his latest chameleon-like outing -- and perhaps his most outrageous.
This film hits theaters March 29 -- just in time for spring break.
