Sundance 2013: Monterey Media Nabs U.S. Rights to 'This Is Martin Bonner'
The film, which stars Paul Eenhoorn and Richmond Arquette, marks writer-director Chad Hartigan's second feature.
Monterey Media has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Chad Hartigan's This Is Martin Bonner.
The film, which stars Paul Eenhoorn and Richmond Arquette, premiered to critical acclaim at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the festival’s "Best of NEXT" audience award.
The sophomore film from writer-director Hartigan, This Is Martin Bonner centers on the fiftysomething titular character (Eenhoorn) who leaves his old life behind and relocates to Reno, where he finds work helping released prisoners transition to life on the outside while trying his hand at speed dating and passing time as a soccer referee on weekends. Meanwhile, Travis Holloway (Arquette) has just been released from prison after serving 12 years. Surprising both of them, they find unspoken support and understanding as both struggle in an unfamiliar place — looking for a second chance at life.
Monterey is planning a summer theatrical release for the film, followed by an awards push in the fall.
"I have no doubt that This Is Martin Bonner is in the right hands," Hartigan said. "Monterey is committed to bringing unique films to audiences all over the country, and I'm honored to join the likes of Guy Maddin and Monte Hellman on the list of their recent collaborators."
ICM Partners and Traction Media repped the filmmakers. Scott Mansfield negotiated on behalf of Monterey.
