Sundance 2013: QED Picks Up International Rights for 'Toy's House'

QED International has acquired international rights to Jordan Vogt-Roberts' feature helming debut, Toy's House.

The deal marks the first one struck by newly installed worldwide president of marketing and acquisitions John Hegeman.

QED will distribute Toy's House in all markets outside North America. The film premiered as part of Sundance's U.S. Dramatic Competition on Jan. 19 and was picked up for U.S. distribution by CBS Films, which is eyeing a 2013 release.

Penned by Chris Galletta, Toy's House follows three unhappy teenage boys who flee to the wilderness, where they build a makeshift house in hopes of living off the land.

The film stars Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, Moises Arias, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally and Alison Brie.

"QED shares our belief that comedy can be hilarious while at the same time beautiful, cinematic and full of heart, and we can't imagine a better international partner for our film,” Vogt-Roberts said. “They have consistently brought compelling entertainment from great filmmakers to the worldwide market."  

Added Hegeman, "As QED continues to expand its global footprint, we’re looking for outstanding filmmakers whose movies have a strong international upside, and Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ exciting directorial debut fits the bill perfectly."  

Toy's House will be part of QED’s upcoming Berlin sales slate.

The deal was negotiated by QED VP of international sales John Friedberg. John Sloss and Cinetic Media repped the filmmakers.
