Tim Robbins Boards 'Kids Are All Right' Writer's Directorial Debut (Cannes Exclusive)

Tim Robbins will star with Mark Ruffalo in the directorial debut of writer-producer Stuart Blumberg, who was nominated for an Oscar this year for co-writing The Kids Are All Right.

Gilbert Films and Blumberg’s Class 5 Films are producing the comedy, titled Thanks for Sharing, which revolves around characters in a 12-step program for recovering sex addicts in New York City. Filming will begin on the project, written by Blumberg and Matt Winston, in the fall.

Gary Gilbert and Jordan Horowitz are producing for Gilbert Films, which is also financing the picture. William Migliore and David Koplan are producing for Class 5, with partner Edward Norton serving as executive producer.

It’s a reunion for many of the main players. Ruffalo was also nominated for an Academy Award for starring in Kids Are All Right, which Gilbert Films produced as well. And Blumberg wrote and produced Norton’s directorial debut, Keeping the Faith.

“We are delighted to once again be working with Stuart as he makes his directorial debut on this very exciting project,” Gilbert said. “On The Kids Are All Right, he clearly demonstrated an incredible talent for creating exceptional roles while telling original, important and thought-provoking stories.”

WME and UTA are co-repping U.S. rights to the feature, and Voltage Pictures is handling international sales at the Marche du Film in Cannes.

The WME-repped Blumberg also co-wrote The Girl Next Door.

The UTA-repped Robbins most recently starred in Cinema Verite, City of Ember and The Lucky Ones. He next appears in Warner Bros.’ Green Lantern in June.

Repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Ruffalo most recently starred in Date Night, Shutter Island and Sympathy for Delicious, which he also directed. He is filming Marvel Studios’ The Avengers for a summer 2012 release through Disney.

Gilbert Films has produced Garden State, From Prada to Nada, Henry Poole Is Here and Meet Monica Velour. Forthcoming projects include the dramas Cripple and Margaret.

Class 5 has produced Leaves of Grass, The Painted Veil and the HBO documentary By the People: The Election of Barack Obama.
