Tribeca Film Grabs Rights to 'The Last Rites of Joe May'
The drama from writer-director Joe Maggio will be released in October.
Tribeca Film has acquired North American distribution rights to The Last Rites of Joe May, written and directed by Joe Maggio. The indie distributor plans a theatrical and VOD release in October.
The drama, which had its world premiere in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival in April, stars Dennis Farina as an aging Chicago short-money hustler plotting a comeback scheme after a long hospital stay. Stephanie Striegel and Bill Straus produced the film in association with Chicago’s Steppenwolf Films.
“Joe Maggio has imagined a character that resonates with subtlety and truth in addressing the realities of the final denouement of one’s life in The Last Rites of Joe May,” said Tribeca Enterprises chief creative officer Geoffrey Gilmore. “Dennis Farina delivers the performance of his lifetime with a realism and vulnerability that we haven’t seen before.”
Tribeca's Nick Savva negotiated the deal with Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films on behalf of the producers.
Tribeca Film recently released the films Last Night and The Bang Bang Club.
