WHY HE MATTERS
Cassell keeps Taylor Swift looking stylish, from red carpets to Red tour concerts, from appearances to advertising campaigns (Diet Coke, Keds, Target).
HIS TOP LOOK
Swift’s Gucci Premiere at the Grammys (No. 38). “It was classic and elegant, but the crystal chain mail added edge,” says Cassell. “When I saw this dress, I immediately emailed to say, ‘THAT ONE!’ but it was already out at a Golden Globes fitting. I had to pray and wait until the other stylist edited it out.” Cassell, who moved from Nashville to L.A. this past year, adds that the chain mail shredded the sheer underlay when Swift walked, so he “had to perform a little surgery and trim the threads in the car en route to the show.”
To avoid any too-revealing moments, Cassell keeps lining fabrics (“china silk, charmeuse and stretch mesh”) in his styling kit that match Swift’s skin tone. Another must-have is his Hollywood Fashion Secrets sponge. “It’s marketed as a way to remove deodorant, but it also miraculously removes makeup from many fabrics,” says Cassell.
