Jill Ratner has been promoted to executive vp litigation for the Fox Entertainment Group, the company announced Thursday.

Ratner will lead the team that oversees litigation and claims across the Fox companies and will continue reporting to Fox Group legal executive vp Gary D. Roberts.

"Not only has Jill been instrumental in Fox’s successful litigation of many high-profile cases over the past 12 years, she has become an exemplary business executive within the company," said Roberts in the announcement. "She has earned this greatly expanded role."

She most recently served as senior vp litigation.

During that time, she worked on one of the most significant copyright lawsuits in recent years, WNET v. Aereo, in which the U.S. Supreme Court found that Aereo's service of providing over-the-air television signals to subscribers' digital devices qualified as a public performance of copyrighted works. The decision was a landmark win for not just Fox, but for all networks.

Ratner also helped Fox Broadcasting win a preliminary injunction against FilmOn X, prohibiting the company from retransmitting copyrighted programs over the Internet.

"Jill has been a critical contributor to our television business strategy," said Fox Networks Group executive vp and general counsel Rita Tuzon. "Her vast knowledge and expertise is invaluable, and we are thrilled her outstanding work is being recognized."

Before working at Fox, Ratner worked as litigation counsel at two major Los Angeles law firms and at the Motion Picture Association of America.
