Lawsuit Might Be the Oddest Oprah Winfrey Case Ever
As a media mogul and one of the most recognizable women in the world, Oprah Winfrey gets sued a lot. Sometimes the lawsuits are pretty out-there. But we might have found the wildest Oprah-related lawsuit ever.
There is tough competition. Winfrey and her Harpo Prods have been sued for all sorts of crazy stuff, including swearing off burgers on her show, allegedly ripping of poetry, firing a flight attendant over sex allegations, making public statements about a headmistress at a South Africa youth academy, and asking a six-year-old to name the fattest U.S. president.
Dare we say these were all run-of-the-mill compared to the latest allegations against the talk show queen? The plaintiff, Tiffany Gouch, filed a lawsuit last week in California that includes ruminations about celebrity encounters, lesbian trysts, and rampant copyright abuse in the Hollywood.
We're not totally sure what Oprah is actually accused of doing, but somewhere in the complaint, there's a pot-boiler conspiracy that leads to the plaintiff losing credit and profits on some of the most successful songs of the past decade, including works by Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Katy Perry, Chris Brown, Jamie Foxx, Mariah Carey and Britney Spears. And somehow, Michael Jackson's death plays a part.
The plaintiff says she was accepted into the Musicians Institute of Hollywood and was eager to learn about music publishing and copyright law. No doubt there's an audience for this sort of thing somewhere.
