Tony-winner Cynthia Erivo will join the star-studded cast of Doug Liman's Chaos Walking.
Daisy Ridley and Tom Holland will topline the dystopian sci-fi feature, with Nick Jonas, Demián Bichir, Mads Mikkelsen, Kurt Sutter and David Oyelowo also set to star.
Chaos Walking, based on the book of the same name by Patrick Ness, takes place in a world where all women have been killed by a germ and all living creatures can hear one another's thoughts in a stream of images, words and sounds called "The Noise." Holland stars as a Todd, a boy forced to flee his town with his loyal dog who comes upon Viola (Ridley), who may be the key to unlocking their New World's secrets.
Erivo will play Hildy, an important ally to Todd and Viola, and the leader of Farbranch, a peaceful settlement in the New World that is forced to take a stand against Mayor Prentiss (Mikkelson) and his growing army.
The script was adapted by Charlie Kaufman, Patrick Ness, John Lee Hancock and Chris Ford. Doug Davison, Allison Shearmur and Erwin Stoff are set to produce.
Erivo, who won a Tony for her role in the 2015 Broadway revival of The Color Purple, has been racking up screen credits. Last week it was announced that the English actress had joined Drew Goddard’s Bad Times at the El Royale at Fox. She will next be seen opposite Viola Davis in Steve McQueen's Widows and is set to play Harriet Tubman in the biopic Harriet.
She is repped UTA, Authentic and the U.K.'s Claire Hoath.
