Julie Plec is ready to make her pilot directing debut.
The Vampire Diaries and Originals favorite has joined The CW's untitled Roswell reboot and will direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer should the drama move to series.
The project is based on the Roswell High book series by Melinda Metz. The Originals writer Carina Adly MacKenzie penned the pilot and will now reunite with Plec on Roswell.
After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush, who is now a police officer: He’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.
Plec most recently directed an episode of The CW's Riverdale and previously helmed multiple installments of The Vampire Diaries. She exec produces The Originals via her Warner Bros. Television-based My So-Called Company banner.
The Originals is set to return for its final season starting April 20 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
