The new detective on Lethal Weapon has a name, an ex and a kid.
The Fox series has added Maggie Lawson (Psych) in a recurring role for season three, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. She'll play the ex of Seann William Scott's character, the new partner of Damon Wayans' Roger Murtaugh.
Scott joined Lethal Weapon in May after original co-lead Clayne Crawford was fired following a couple of on-set incidents. The casting of Scott helped secure a third-season renewal for the Warner Bros. drama.
Scott's character, Wesley Cole, is a veteran (as was Crawford's Martin Riggs) and has a child with his ex, Dr. Natalie Flynn (Lawson). The two met in the service, where he was a soldier and she a medic, and had a brief relationship that led to Natalie having their baby.
Cole moves to Los Angeles in order to be closer to the child and potentially rekindle his relationship with Natalie.
"Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast," Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in May following Scott's casting. "Lethal Weapon is packed with action, drama and pure fun, and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen."
Lawson reprised her role as Detective Juliet O'Hara in Psych: The Movie for USA in 2017. She has a recurring part on Netflix's Santa Clarita Diet and has also appeared on several episodes of the streamer's sitcom The Ranch. She's repped by Gersh, manager Jason Barrett and attorney Michael Schenkman.
