The debut of The Masked Singer scored big for Fox on Wednesday, becoming the top-rated series premiere of 2018-19 so far.
The singing competition featuring elaborately costumed celebrities also had the best premiere among adults 18-49 of any series (excluding sports) this season, tying This Is Us' season opener. The Masked Singer also gathered 9.4 million viewers, the best debut by a Fox series this season by more than a million people and ranking fifth among series premieres across all the broadcast networks.
The show also scored the top 18-49 rating for any Fox show in nearly a year, since a Simpsons episode following an NFL playoff game on Jan. 14, 2018, delivered a 3.3. It was the best unscripted series premiere on any network since The X Factor way back in September 2011 (excluding post-NFL premieres).
Lead-in 24 Hours to Hell and Back scored a 1.2 for Fox with its second-season premiere, marking a series high.
The only other original shows on the broadcast networks Wednesday were CBS dramas SEAL Team (0.9) and Criminal Minds (0.7). Both were off slightly from their last airings in December but in line with their season averages.
Fox's 2.1 rating among adults 18-49 easily led the network standings for the night. CBS finished second at 0.8. ABC and NBC tied for third at 0.6, and The CW trailed with a 0.2.
