Rita Moreno has landed her first role since the end of One Day at a Time on Netflix.
The EGOT-winning actress headlines a roster of guest stars on ABC's comedy Bless This Mess, which premieres Tuesday. The series, which came to ABC after Fox passed on it, stars Lake Bell and Dax Shepard as Rio and Mike, a couple who move from New York to rural Nebraska after inheriting a farmhouse from his aunt. Bell and New Girl's Elizabeth Meriwether co-created the show.
Other guest stars set for the six-episode run include Jim O'Heir (Parks and Recreation), Nancy Lenehan (Veep, People of Earth), Rose Abdoo (Gilmore Girls), Lisa Linke, Brendan Hunt and Joseph A. Nunez, all of whom will recur. Tim Bagley, Eddie Pepitone and Jen Tullock each have one-off roles.
Moreno will appear in the show's season finale in May. She plays Theresa, the seductive ex-wife of Rudy (series regular Ed Begley Jr.), who runs into him at a county fair square dance after not seeing him for a decade.
O'Heir, Hunt and Nunez will play the Coffee Boys, a group in town that Mike wants to befriend. Lenehan, Abdoo and Linke will play members of a scrapbooking club headed by Kay (Lennon Parham), one of Rio and Mike's new neighbors.
Pepitone and Tullock each appear in the series premiere as patients of therapist Rio who are having trouble with the idea that she's leaving New York. Bagley appears in the second episode as the only attorney in Bucksnort, Nebraska.
Pam Grier and JT Neal are regulars alongside Bell, Shepard and Begley. Bless This Mess is a co-production of Disney-owned studios 20th Century Fox TV and ABC Studios; Bell, Meriwether, Shepard, Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar, Erin O'Malley and Katherine Pope are executive producers.
