The Hollywood Reporter is expanding its award-winning Roundtables series to a first-ever event with a live audience.
Selected awards voters and THR readers will be invited to watch an intimate discussion with some of Hollywood's most respected actors, on Thursday, Dec. 7, in Los Angeles. Several major awards contenders are slated to participate in the event, which will be hosted by THR executive editor features Stephen Galloway and moderated by THR editorial director Matthew Belloni.
The Live Roundtable will break from tradition and mix male and female actors at the invite-only event, filmed before an audience of Hollywood insiders and awards voters. A transcript of the panel will run in The Hollywood Reporter’s print magazine, with the full video airing on SundanceTV’s Daytime Emmy-nominated series Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter and on THR.com.
"We're thrilled to grow one of The Hollywood Reporter's signature franchises into a live event experience,” Belloni said. "For years, fans of the Roundtables have asked if they could see one live in-person, so this is a natural next step for us and a great opportunity for insiders to see a candid discussion among some of Hollywood's most fascinating actors."
The Roundtable series — which was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for outstanding special class series in March — features top contributors to the year's most buzzed-about films and TV series, including actors, actresses, producers, writers and directors.
THR’s recent Producer Roundtable — featuring Judd Apatow, Jason Blum, Eric Fellner, Amy Pascal, Seth Rogen and Ridley Scott — made headlines for its frank discussion on sexual abuse in Hollywood. Earlier this year, THR gathered Nicole Kidman, Jessica Lange, Chrissy Metz, Elisabeth Moss, Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon for a Drama Actress Roundtable, which featured headline-making debates on everything from diversity on- and off-screen to sexism and racism in Hollywood.
THR's Roundtables air on SundanceTV as Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter — produced in partnership with THR — and on THR.com. A new season of Close Up, which will include the live panel, will begin airing in December in the run-up to the 2018 Academy Awards.
