"The writers [of Silicon Valley] are really good about putting these characters in new situations," Kumail Nanjiani told The Hollywood Reporter about his role on the HBO comedy series. Nanjiani recently joined five other TV comedic acting greats to talk about the industry for THR's Comedy Actor Roundtable.
"To be able to get to play the same person for years is such a great thing," continued Nanjiani. "You find new levels and new layers, new things about him."
The Big Sick writer shared the worst feedback he ever received, where the producers of a film told him "they wanted to go in an all-American direction. And then they cast an Australian guy. So I think I know what that means," the Pakistani-born actor joked.
More roundtables featuring comedy and drama actresses, actors, showrunners and reality creators will continue through July in print and online. Tune in to new episodes of Close Up With The Hollywood Reporter starting May 25 on Sundance TV, and look for clips at THR.com/topic/roundtables with full episodes on THR.com after broadcast.
