Lakeith Stanfield is going green for the 2018 Oscars.
He will not literally be wearing green (well, that we know of) but rather sporting a design that is ethically and sustainably crafted as the official partner of Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) for the Academy Awards on March 4.
Founded by Suzy Amis Cameron, RCGD aims to shed a light on the two buzziest issues affecting the fashion industry — ethical and sustainable production — by highlighting emerging and established high-fashion designers who are doing their part. Amis Cameron conceived the program in 2009 after accompanying husband James Cameron on the Avatar press tour.
"This year is extraordinarily special being able to have a remarkable actor to represent us at the Academy Awards," Amis Cameron tells The Hollywood Reporter. "A shift is taking place in our country, and more and more people are wanting to do their part bettering the environment and themselves. Our network of designers, talent and sponsors are all expanding because they are seeing how sustainable living directly impacts our lives in the present and in the future."
Stanfield, who stars in the best picture-nominated film Get Out, joins past A-list participants Naomie Harris, Emma Roberts and Gina Rodriguez. "I'll be at the Oscars representing," said Stanfield of his participation. "I want to do my part to spread love on this planet we all share."
Amis Cameron's initiative isn't solely about these two fashion industry issues, however. Working with corporate partners like Absolut Elyx, RCGD also gives back to MUSE School CA, an environmental nonprofit educational organization that Amis Cameron launched with her sister, Rebecca Amis, in Calabasas.
Ahead of the Awards on March 1, Stanfield as well as other RCGD partners past and present will attend a pre-Oscars party at a residence in Los Angeles, which will no doubt be a fashionable affair — because green is in for 2018.
9:50 a.m. A previous version of this article stated that Hannah Murray is also a partner of RCGD's Oscars initiative. However, Murray can no longer attend the show and is no longer participating as a partner.
