Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson can now also add "five-time Emmy nominee" to his résumé. The scientist has received his third consecutive Emmy nomination for his Nat Geo show StarTalk With Neil deGrasse Tyson, where the host interviews a wide range of celebrity guests to combine science and pop culture.

"For people to think of science as entertainment — that's a different world," Tyson says. "We're bringing science to television in a way that hasn't happened before."

Stopping by the offices of The Hollywood Reporter to talk about the TV Academy's recognition of the first-ever science-based talk show, Tyson admits that being acknowledged with a nomination is enough. "I'm just being noticed because we're trying to make a difference out there on this landscape of anti-science," he explains.

For Tyson, the intersection of science and entertainment is important, especially in reminding people that science doesn't have to be something you left in the classroom: "If I were to spend time with you, some information should be exchanged on a level where you walk away saying, 'I'm a little more enlightened after that moment than I was before.'"
