If you were among the consumers lobbying Spanx to create a product specifically for your arms, today is your lucky day.
The 17-year-old brand announced Thursday that "arm tights" — or Spanx for arms, as the internet has so dubbed them — are coming on Sept. 25. Before you get too excited, these "arm tights" are not shapewear, per se, but rather a layering piece intended to transition your sleeveless summer wardrobe pieces into fall, much like actual tights.
The arm tights are essentially skintight crop tops made entirely of hosiery, available in a wide range of colors (from black to neon pink) and textures (including cable knit, shimmery and sheer varieties) and three sizes (XS/S, M, L/XL) for $30-$34. Unlike traditional layering tops, the nylon and spandex sleeves are completely seamless.
Spanx founder Sara Blakely told Vogue that the new product is "a solution that will smooth and flatter your arms and feel super luxe on the skin too," adding, "we wear tights on our legs to transition skirts and dresses into the fall and winter seasons, but why not on our arms?" According to Vogue writer Brooke Bobb, who took the arm tights for a New York Fashion Week test-drive, they do offer a flattering effect, even though the support level is listed as "non-shaping" on the brand's website.
Although Spanx used to be a hush-hush product, the company is now inviting its customers to wear their products out and proud (and in neon hues), banishing the stigma associated with getting a bit of body confidence booty boost. After all, just last week Beyonce was spotted wearing Spanx — and if she can do it, so can we.
