As CES opens in Las Vegas, Cirque du Soleil and Montreal-based Felix & Paul Studios are releasing a new virtual-reality experience based on one of Las Vegas’ highly popular shows, the water-themed O at the Bellagio.

The 12-minute Dreams of O is a dazzling 3D, 360-degree experiential look at the show, which includes aerial acrobatics, dives and underwater sequences, fire and surreal amphibious characters.

Samsung funded the production, and it initially will be available for Samsung Gear VR via the Oculus store or via 360 video.

This is the third VR experience from Cirque du Soleil and Felix & Paul, following Inside the Box of Kurios and KA The Battle Within. For Dreams of O, the studio tapped Francois Blouin to co-direct, following his collaboration on KA.

Later in Q1, all of the Cirque du Soleil VR experiences will be available for purchase through a new Cirque du Soleil-branded VR platform. Felix & Paul's next collaboration with Cirque will be an experience based on the Mexico-inspired show Luzia in San Francisco.

Felix & Paul develops its own camera systems, and it reported that for Dreams of O, it combined its slow motion and underwater capabilities to create a camera system that could film underwater sequences in slow motion. One such sequence shows the same performance to the right and left of the viewer — on one side, the camera looks down at the performance, and on the other, the camera is underwater, looking up at the same sequence.

During CES, delegates can view Dreams of O at the Samsung booth. Additionally, the public can view Dreams of O at the Bellagio hotel lobby until Jan. 8 and KA The Battle Within in the MGM Grand hotel lobby until Jan. 12.
