The Cinema Audio Society has set the timelines for the 56th Annual CAS Awards for outstanding sound mixing as well as the CAS Student Recognition Award.

Reflecting the shortened awards-season calendar, the ceremony will be held Jan. 25, again at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown, and the TV eligibility period will be Jan. 1 thru Oct. 31 of this year (it previously ran until Dec. 31). The timeline for next year's eligibility period will be Nov. 1, 2019, thru Oct. 31, 2020. The motion picture timeline will remain Jan. 1 thru Dec. 31.

“This year’s CAS timeline provides the most opportunity for recognition and participation of our members possible within the constraints of the industry’s accelerated award season,” CAS president Karol Urban said Thursday in a statement. “This year we are also announcing the timeline for our Student Recognition Award. Enriching the next generation is the most profound and lasting gift we can give to the future of our craft. We are proud to have an opportunity to recognize some of the most promising members of the next generation."

A $5,000 prize will be awarded to the winner, and all the student finalists will receive a gift bag containing software and gear to help them to launch a career in sound. Last year’s bag was valued at $10,000.
