New York-headquartered media services agency Horizon Media is launching a new specialty unit, UNCVR, aimed at developing virtual, augmented and mixed reality content. It’s also partnering STX Entertainment’s VR unit, STXsurreal, by offering it a first right of refusal to produce projects for its clients.

UNCVR will be led by Sarah Bachman, vp mobile strategy, and Monika Ratner, director of social strategy, reporting to Horizon’s chief digital officer, Donnie Williams.

STXsurreal was formed in 2016 when STX acquired Surreal, a VR and immersive content producer and distributor. In a released statement, STXsurreal co-presidents Rick Rey and Andy Vick said of the UNCOVR deal: “As audience demand for compelling, premium content in the immersive space grows, this represents a huge opportunity to bring major talent into VR and help them engage their fan base.”

“We are always looking to create the most immersive and engaging experience for our clients and their brands,” said Horizon’s president, founder and CEO Bill Koenigsberg. “UNCVR is a big step into the virtual space, and we are excited to make this move with STXsurreal to unlock its potential.”

For the advertising technology side of the equation, UNCVR has forged a relationship with OmniVirt, a 360 video and virtual reality advertising platform.
