IBC: Avid Names New CTO

Rashid Desai has been named CTO of Avid, maker of the Media Composer editing system and ProTools audio postproduction systems.

He starts in his new role Friday at the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam.

Desai, who brings expertise in cloud systems and media security, comes from Barclaycard, where he was chief information and technology officer. Earlier, he worked with Avid CEO Louis Hernandez, Jr. at technology provider Open Solutions.

As he starts at Avid, Desai said he would focus development on "collaboration, from production through distribution."
