John Bailey to Be Honored by Camera Operators

The Motion Picture Academy president will receive the SOC Governors Lifetime Achievement Award.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science president and cinematographer John Bailey (The Big Chill) will receive the Society of Camera Operators' governors lifetime achievement award.

The award — which recognizes "outstanding contribution and achievement with consistent enlightened service and leadership in film, video or media" — will be presented Feb. 2 at the SOC Awards, to be held at Loews Hollywood Hotel.

Also during the ceremony, the SOC will honor industry vet Denny Clairmont, founder of Clairmont Camera, with the lifetime achievement award for distinguished service.

The society also announced its lifetime achievement awards honorees for camera operator, mobile camera platform operator, camera technical and still photographer. They are Scott Sakamoto (The Revenant), camera operator; Dan Pershing (The Jungle Book), mobile camera platform operator; John Connor, camera technician; and JoJo Whilden, still photographer.
