NextVR, a virtual reality startup focused on broadcasting live events to VR headgear, has partnered with events company Live Nation to broadcast “hundreds” of live musical performances in VR, giving viewers a virtual “front row" seat as well as backstage access.

For sound, which has been a frequent topic of discussion in VR development, it will rely on a new proprietary 3D VR audio system developed by NextVR.

There were few details revealed on Wednesday; the companies said the first experience would be announced shortly and take place this summer. Users will be able watch the performances by downloading a free NextVR app for Samsung Gear VR headsets.

Earlier this year, NextVR entered into a five-year partnership with Fox Sports, aimed at offering live VR coverage of sporting events.
