The Oscar for production design went to La La Land’s husband and wife team of production designer David Wasco and set decorator Sandy Reynolds-Wasco.

"Damien (Chazelle), we wouldn't be here without you," David Wasco said, accepting the award. It was the first nomination and win for the pair, whose previous work has included Inglourious Basterds and Pulp Fiction.

Backstage, David Wasco said "This city has a deep history; we have a passion for the diverse architecture. We wanted that as a backdrop for the story. Damien wanted to make a contemporary movie and juxtapose it with the history of the city."

The win topped a field that included the teams behind Arrival, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Hail, Caesar! and Passengers.
