Steven Spielberg will receive the Cinema Audio Society Filmmaker Award on Feb. 16 at the 55th annual CAS Awards at the Intercontinental Los Angeles Downtown.

"I am thrilled to announce Steven Spielberg as the CAS Filmmaker honoree for our 55th CAS Awards," CAS president Mark Ulano said Thursday in a statement. "The CAS has recognized Steven’s commitment to sound multiple times, with nominations for outstanding sound mixing and a win for Saving Private Ryan. And, most importantly, we recognize that Steven has had relationships with sound mixers that span more than 25 projects — a strong indicator that a director values the role of sound. Steven has long embraced the creative importance of sound for his storytelling and all his projects beautifully reflect this commitment."

Spielberg is widely recognized for his critical and commercial successes including Jaws, E.T. The Extra-TerrestrialJurassic Park, Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. His most recent work includes the political drama The Post and the sci-fi adventure Ready Player One.

Spielberg has also devoted his time and resources to many philanthropic causes. He established the Righteous Persons Foundation using his profits from Schindler’s List, and also founded the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, which in 2006 became the USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education.

As previously announced, production sound mixer Lee Orloff will receive the CAS Career Achievement Award during the upcoming ceremony.
