Thelma Schoonmaker, Janet Ashikaga to Get ACE Career Achievement Honors

Thelma Schoonmaker and Janet Ashikaga will receive career achievement honors on Jan. 27 at the 67th annual ACE Eddie Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the American Cinema Editors organization announced Tuesday.

Martin Scorsese’s longtime editor, Schoonmaker is a three-time Oscar winner for the director’s Raging Bull, The Aviator and The Departed, and her credits also include Scorsese’s Goodfellas and most recently Silence.

Four-time Emmy winner Ashikaga is known for some classic television including SeinfeldSports Night, My Name is Earl and The West Wing. 

“Janet Ashikaga and Thelma Schoonmaker have helped create some of the most iconic films and television programs in entertainment,” the ACE board of directors said in a statement. “While their résumés alone are deserving of recognition and celebration, their commitment to the film editing community and shining a light on the craft of film editing is also noteworthy.  For these reasons and more, we are thrilled to honor them with Career Achievement awards for their indelible contributions to the craft and community of film editing.”

As previously announced, J.J. Abrams will receive the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award during the ceremony.
