Tim Thorsteinson Named CEO of Postproduction Technology Maker Quantel

UK-headquartered postproduction and broadcast technology maker Quantel has named longtime industry vet Tim Thorsteinson to the role of CEO. Thorsteinson previously led two of the largest businesses in broadcast technology, as CEO of Grass Valley and president of Harris Corp. (now Imagine Communications).

At Quantel, Thorsteinson succeeds Ray Cross, who has stepped down as chairman and CEO after 10 years in the role.

Quantel's product line includes the 4K post system Pablo Rio. The company also encompasses Snell, which develops video processors and related tools.

"I'm very excited to be joining Quantel," said Thorsteinson in a statement. "It is one of the larger independent businesses in our industry, with world class products and a rich history of innovation. I want to build on that tradition to create an organization 100 percent focused on helping our customers prosper in the media technology world."

"Tim has a proven track record of value creation, and his knowledge and experience are a great fit to grow the combined Quantel and Snell business," Chris Hurley, managing director Lloyds Development Capital and Quantel board director said in a statement. "I would also like to thank Ray for all his hard work and achievements at Quantel over the past 10 years."
