Hot YA Book 'One Memory of Flora Banks' Debuts Trailer
The One Memory of Flora Banks, one of the most anticipated YA novels of the summer (out May 2), is getting a cool trailer timed to its U.S. release on Tuesday.
Flora Banks is about 17-year-old girl who can’t remember anything past the age of ten and whose current memory constantly resets. She has to write notes to herself or get the people around her to remind her of the details of her life (think Memento or 50 First Dates). Then one day she kisses her best friend’s boyfriend -- and the memory sticks.
Flora chases after him when he goes to Svalbard, the place in Norway that has 24-hour days in the summer and 24-hour nights in the winter, for scientific research. In Svalbard, she finally begins to put together the puzzle of her illness, and the answers shock her.
Flora Banks is former Guardian journalist Emily Barr’s debut YA novel (she's a best-selling adult novelist). It is already the best-selling YA debut in the UK, where it was released in January (it will be released in another 23 countries). And it has popped up on numerous 2017 and beach read “must read” lists.
Barr actually went to Svalbard as part of her research for the book, as well as talking to numerous memory and amnesia experts.
She is currently working on her sophomore YA effort, The Truth and Lies of Ella Black.
