Ward, whose 2013 memoir was optioned by Lee Daniels, is a 2017 MacArthur fellow. Her newest novel, a National Book Award finalist, follows a 13-year-old boy and his meth-addicted mom as they pick his dad up from Mississippi's notorious Parchman prison.

Meyer, whose popular YA trilogy The Lunar Chronicles (think classic fairy tales set in space) was optioned in 2013, returns with a future-set tale of a girl who has been raised by supervillains falling for a boy who has been raised by superheroes.
