New Kids Time-Travel Series 'Thrifty Guide' Gets Cover, Release Date
Take a look at the cover of the first two books in Addison Cooke writer Jonathan Stokes’ new series, modeled on a budget travel guide and pitched as a middle-grade time-travel series in the vein of Magic School Bus.
In the future, a special kind of travel agency sends a group of students back in time. While in the past — Ancient Rome and Revolutionary America in the first two books — the students learn such things as what to do if they’re attacked by barbarians, their legal options if they’re sent to the lions at the Colosseum, how to join Paul Revere’s spy ring and where to meet Alexander Hamilton for lunch, all while trying to return to the present.
The Thrifty Guide to Ancient Rome and The Thrifty Guide to the American Revolution are both set for release on Jan. 30.
A movie version of the series is already being developed by New Line Cinema and San Andreas producer Beau Flynn. Stokes is penning the screenplay.
A former teacher and screenwriter, Stokes is also the author of the children’s books Addison Cooke and the Treasure of the Incas and the forthcoming Addison Cooke and the Tomb of the Khan. He has landed multiple scripts on the Black List and the wrote the 2012 film El Gringo. Stokes is repped by UTA and Writers House.
