The Science and Technology Council of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present a two-night exploration of 3-D motion picture technology that will include the U.S. premiere of the newly restored John Wayne 3-D film “Hondo.”
“Hondo,” a Western based on a Louis L’Amour story, was a boxoffice success in its initial 1953 release but rarely has been seen in its original 3-D format since. It screens Nov. 13.
The first program, on Nov. 6, will be moderated by council member Rob Hummel. Speakers will include 3-D director of photography and visual effects supervisor Peter Anderson; Garrett Smith, vp digital mastering operations at Paramount; visual effects supervisor Eric Brevig; and Chris Condon, a 3-D consultant and former president of StereoVision International.
