PARIS — Independent distributor A-films is taking a walk on the wild side after signing a new deal with Wild Bunch for exclusive theatrical distribution rights to the French sales company’s titles in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, the companies said today.
The Netherlands-based A-Film also will handle TV and video sales for Wild Bunch’s titles in the territory and Eric Engelen, head of A-Film’s Belgian wing, will coordinate the logistics of the deal with Wild Bunch. The partnership marks Wild Bunch’s first venture into theatrical distribution outside of France.
“After France, Wild Bunch will pursue its development and take a new step in building a pan-European distribution network,” the company said in a statement.
Vincent Maraval’s Paris-based sales team also has plans to co-produce and co-acquire films with A-film for the Benelux region. Run by Pim Heremeling and Dirk van den Esschert, A-film is the principal independent distributor in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg and plans to distribute Cannes Competition titles “An Old Mistress” (Catherine Breillat) and “Death Proof” (Quentin Tarantino) over the course of the year.
Wild Bunch will be in Cannes this year with a number of titles in the Official Selection including Bruni-Tedeschi’s “Le Reve de la nuit d’avant,” Barbet Schroeder’s “L’Avocat de la Terreur” and Carmen Castillo’s “Calle Santa Fe.” It also will rep Abel Ferrara’s Out of Competition title “Go Go Tales.”
