ABC and the National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians have ratified a new four-year contract covering about 1,100 staff employees and several thousand daily hire employees represented by the union at the network and four ABC-owned stations.
All eight NABET bargaining units at ABC ratified the contract, which became effective Saturday. Last month, NABET’s leadership and its negotiating team had unanimously recommended ratification (HR 12/10).
“We’re pleased that NABET members from all eight of the union’s bargaining units ratified these agreements and are now moving forward with ABC under this new four-year contract,” Jeffrey Ruthizer, senior vp labor relations at ABC and lead negotiator.
NABET’s representation of employees in certain job categories varies by location to include broadcast engineers, desk assistants, newswriters, plant maintenance staff, publicists and traffic coordinators.
The agreement encompasses certain employees at WABC New York, KABC Los Angeles, WLS Chicago and KGO San Francisco and at ABC in New York, Los Angeles and Washington. The previous contract expired March 31.
