NEW DELHI — Leading Indian chain Adlabs Cinemas on Friday launched the country’s first multisensory cinema, adding scents, moving seats and interactive contorls to the 3-D moviegoing experience at a new facility in Agra City, home to the Taj Mahal.
“India in Motion,” a specially commissioned 30-mintute film about the country’s history, starring veteran actor Anupam Kher (“Bend It Like Beckham,” launched the Agra cinema, a major tourist destination 125 miles from India’s capital.
“We believe that Indian culture and entertainment has a huge audience internationally,” Adlabs Cinemas COO Tushar Dhingra said. “This is the next step towards taking India to the world.”
Adlabs, which also runs two Imax cinemas in India, will charge foreign tourists visiting the Agra cinema $10 per ticket. Domestic moviegoers will pay $4 and students will pay $2.20, he said.
Mumbai-based Adlabs built the cinema in cooperation with Cinema Park Network of Israel, which has completed more than 450 projects worldwide, including the Millennium Pavilion at Disney World in Orlando.
