CANNES — Alfonso “Poncho” Ulloa has come aboard the indie noir “Black Wings Has My Angel” to rewrite the screenplay adaptation and direct.
Amaranth Film Partners and Indalo Prods. are producing the English-language project with Elijah Wood and Christopher Peditto.
“Wings” is based on a 1953 Gold Medal pulp novel by journalist Elliott Chaze. In the hard-boiled story, an ex-convict stages a daring armored-car robbery in Colorado with the help of a call girl he picked up in a backwoods Mississippi motel. Across the top of the original paperback cover is the classic pulp tagline: “She had the face of a madonna and a heart made of dollar bills.”
Repped by WME and the Gotham Group, Ulloa directed the 2008 Spanish-language film “Love, Pain and Vice Versa.” He also is attached to direct the thriller “Playback,” with Jake Abel (“Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief”) and Katrina Bowden (“30 Rock”) starring for producer Arnold Rifkin and Lemon Films.
Amaranth recently produced the drama “Do Elephants Pray?” Indalo produced the pics “Turning Green” and “Day Zero” and is in production on “Rocksteady.”
